UPDATE: The 49ers released a statement about the positive test.
“The San Francisco 49ers were informed today that a player has tested positive for COVID-19 and the individual immediately went into self-quarantine. Our organization has entered the NFL’s intensive protocol and we are working with the league on contact tracing to identify high risk individuals. All team functions will be conducted virtually today.
“The health and safety of our players, staff and community are the organization’s highest priority. We will continue to work closely with the NFL and medical professionals and will follow their direction.”
UPDATE: Kendrick Bourne has tested positive for Covid-19, per Adam Schefter. With Deebo Samuel and George Kittle already sidelined, that leaves Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Taylor as the two most significant options in the 49ers passing game.
The San Francisco 49ers have had a positive Covid-19 test and have shut down their facility on Wednesday, per Jennifer Chan. It’s not yet clear if it is a player or staff member, but the team will be going to a virtual format for at least one day.
The 49ers are scheduled to host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football to open Week 9. Green Bay had a Covid-19 issue of its own, with running back A.J. Dillon testing positive and Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin being ruled out as a high risk close contacts. However, the Packers had no positives from their Tuesday tests and are currently scheduled to travel to the Bay Area on Wednesday.
