Melvin Gordon misses Friday practice due to illness before Week 6

Friday update: Melvin Gordon is out of practice due to illness, per Tom Pelissero, while Mike Garafolo adds that the illness is not Covid-19 related. It appears Gordon will still play if healthy enough and if there is actually a game this week agains the Patriots, who have Covid-19 concerns.

Friday update: Melvin Gordon is not at practice on Friday, per Mike Klis. Gordon was sent home on Wednesday after receiving a DUI charge the night before, but did return to practice on Thursday. Now, he’s not out there on Friday. We’ll need more information, but it doesn’t sound like great news for the running back this week.

Thursday update: Gordon missed Wednesday’s practice, but was back at practice on Thursday, per Ryan O’Halloran. His status remains unclear for Week 6 Sunday.

Update: Gordon’s status this week appears to be in jeopardy as the team decides his Week 6 status. If he cannot play, Phillip Lindsay would take over the lead role agains the Patriots.

Update: Gordon won’t practice today, as coach Vic Fangio sent him home, per Mike Klis of 9News.


Denver Broncos starting running back Melvin Gordon was cited for driving under the influence late Tuesday night. According to court records, Gordon was going 25-39 mph over the speed limit, per Troy Renck of ABC Denver. Renck reports that Gordon has not been detained.

Gordon is expected to be arraigned in Denver County Court on Friday Nov. 13th, per Mike Klis of 9News. Klis reports that based on past DUI incidents, that players have received two to three game suspensions. The league and the Broncos organization have yet to comment on the incident.

UPDATE: The Broncos released a statement about Gordon’s DUI incident.

“We are aware of the situation involving Melvin Gordon. Our organization has been in communication with him and is in the process of gathering more details.”
