Drew Brees could join Tom Brady as a free agent

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints joined Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in an early playoff elimination this weekend. A day after the sixth seeded Tennessee Titans knocked off the Patriots, the sixth seeded Minnesota Vikings eliminated the Saints.

Brees and Brady now head home for the offseason, but more importantly, both could hit free agency in March. There was talk before the weekend of this potentially being Brady’s last home game due to the voiding of his contract. However, Brees also could hit free agency with the final two years of his contract voided.

Following Sunday’s loss, Brees did not reveal anything about his future.

“I’m not making any comments on that, other than, you know, I’ve told you guys this for the last couple years, I’ve always just taken it one year at a time and kind of reevaluate each offseason, and find the things I want to get better at, and move on,” Brees told reporters.

Free agency starts on March 18th, which means we are just over three months away. That leaves the Patriots and Saints that much time to negotiate new deals with their respective franchise quarterbacks. Odds are good that both re-sign with their long-time teams, but if they get to the point where they can talk to other teams, this could turn into the craziest free agency period in NFL history.
