We have our first backdoor cover of the 2019 NFL season! Washington scored a touchdown with six seconds left in the fourth quarter en route to a 32-27 loss. Washington could not recover the onside kick, and thus we had the backdoor cover on the ten point spread.
Some will call this game a bad beat, but given how it started, it’s hard to call it that. The Eagles entered the game expected to roll Washington, but shockingly found themselves trailing 17-0. Case Keenum got off to a strong start, with touchdown passes to Vernon Davis and Terry McClaurin. The Eagles put together a 24-0 run in the second half however, and they took a 32-20 lead that was just enough to get the victory.
The growing world of sports betting means we’ll hear more discussion of covers and point spreads and bad beats this NFL season. If someone refers to this as a truly bad beat, you’ll know you might not be listening to the strongest expert. It’s a fun phrase to use, but given the Eagles were trailing 17-0, they were lucky to even have a chance to cover in this game.
