Editor’s update 9/20 2:45 p.m.: The Panthers issued their final injury report for Week 3, and quarterback Cam Newton has been officially ruled out with his foot injury. He aggravated the preseason injury in the team’s Week 2 Thursday Night Football contest against the Bucs. Kyle Allen will start in his place on Sunday vs. the Cardinals.
Editor’s update: Cam Newton is still not practicing after being spotted in a walking boot earlier in the week. Kyle Allen is getting the reps, and appears set to start. The Panthers opened as 3.5-pt favorites, but the DraftKings Sportsbook now has the Cardinals installed as 2.5-pt favorites. Sportsbooks clearly do not expect Cam to play on Sunday.
The Carolina Panthers travel to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, and they could be doing so without their star quarterback. Cam Newton sat out the team’s Tuesday practice, and later, general manager Marty Hurney told the media Newton had aggravated the left foot he injured during the preseason.
Marty Hurney says Cam Newton re-aggravated his same left foot on which he had a mid-foot sprain in the preseason. Team knee after the game he re-aggravated. No timeline. “We will see how it goes.”

No timeline is never good, and “We will see how it goes” only adds to the mystery. Kyle Allen is currently the backup QB and Will Grier is the third string QB.
Fantasy implications: This would certainly be a big issue for just about every Panthers skill position player. Allen would have plenty of tools, but the book is still out on him. Does he look to Greg Olsen or Christian McCaffrey as a safety blanket? Maybe somebody else? You have to downgrade all of your Panthers to some degree, but how much is tough to say right now.
Betting implications: The Panthers opened as a 3.5-point road favorite vs. the Cardinals at DraftKings Sportsbook. The line has come off the board while they re-assess this one. We probably will not know Cam’s status until Friday at the earliest, but those injury reports will be something to watch the next three days. If Cam does not play, maybe Kyler Murray will be playing as a favorite for the first time this year.
