Report: Dolphins talking to teams about trading running back Kenyan Drake

The Dolphins fire sale may be picking up steam. We break down the latest news surrounding running back Kenyan Drake, and the fantasy implications.

The Miami Dolphins are in a clear rebuilding mode, and we might see another move to add to that process. They are talking to other NFL teams about trading running back Kenyan Drake, according to FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer. Dolphins reporter Armando Salguero subsequently reported the team has had zero conversations. Considering they already dealt Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills to start the season, and are reportedly shopping defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, I’m inclined to believe Glazer.

Drake had 12 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards in an ugly Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He is looking at another tough matchup in Week 2, with the New England Patriots favored by nearly three touchdowns. Regardless of how that game goes, it would not be surprising to see Drake dealt before the end of the month. The team has nothing to play for in 2019 except draft position.

Fantasy impact: There are some running back-needy teams, but he could very well end up in a committee approach. Almost anything would be an improvement over Miami, but from a fantasy perspective, take a wait-and-see approach

If Drake gets dealt, it opens the door for Kalen Ballage to become the starter. The second year back had -1 rushing yards on five carries and a 13-yard reception in Week 1. No Dolphins running back will have significant value this season, but even as an RB3 or occasional flex option, it’s better than much of whatever else might be on the waiver wire.
