The 3 best values at tight end in Week 2 DFS

The first week of the season is in the books and before you realize you’ll be smashing that “confirm” button that will make your lineup for Week 2 official. If Week 1 told us something about tight ends, is that early in the season there are a lot of passes going their way, with up to 14 players seeing six targets or more.

Did every TE make the most out of them? Definitely not. Was there a correlation between price and production? Only to a certain extent. As always the best values came from under-the-radar players going off the charts, and that is what we’re into here.

With the weekend approaching faster than we realize, here are three tight ends on their way to provide the best value for Week 2. Pick them and win the day!

T.J. Hockenson (DET) - $3,000

I have been praising and hyping Hockenson for weeks now. He paid me back, and in a huge way. The Lions tight end finished Week 1 with the second-highest DKFP at 28.1 only behind Evan Engram (and it was probably just a question of volume). If there were doubts about who was going to be the leading option on Detroit’s attack other than Kenny Golladay, we just found out.

At a ridiculous price of $3,000 for Week 2, Hockenson can easily be marked as one of the best values overall, let alone at the tight end position. There are 19 TE with higher prices and half of them are mediocre at best. Exploit Hockenson before it becomes a hot commodity and his price skyrockets.

Darren Waller (OAK) - $3,300

If last season serves as a baseline, we can expect huge numbers from Waller going forward (just look at what Jared Cook did in 2018). The addition of Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams impacted Waller’s impact but with Brown out of Oakland, the Raiders receiving game will go around the one-two punch of Williams and Darren Waller. In fact, Waller out-targeted Williams in Week 1, catching seven of eight passes for 70 yards and a nice rounded 10 yards per catch.

Expect more in the coming games. Starting Week 2, Oakland faces Kansas City and the Chiefs finished last year as the fourth-worst defense against TE (16.0 points allowed). If all goes according to expectations, the Raiders will need to throw the ball a lot just to keep up with KC’s offense on the scoreboard and Waller profiles as one of the go-to guys.

Delanie Walker (TEN) - $3,500

I must confess. I’m a sucker for veteran, sure-thing tight ends. And I can’t think of a player fitting that profile more than Delanie. Look at his line from Week 1: five catches on six targets for 55 yards and two scores. That is some production right there. As long as Walker is healthy and carries a price as low as his current one, he should be a lock in your lineups if you’re looking for value.

Mariota relies on tight ends and Walker will keep seeing more targets than anyone in Week 2 against Indianapolis. The Colts were the worst team last season defending tight ends (they allowed 16.0 fantasy points per game). With A.J. Brown and Adam Humphries taking defenders away from Walker, he’s primed for another good performance this weekend.
