Last week on Monday Night Football, ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore accidentally called Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf “Decaf Metcalf.” It was an amusing slip of the tongue that he corrected, but a week later, Metcalf and Tessitore are cashing in.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that a Georgia-based coffee company called Volcanica Coffee partnered with Metcalf to sell 16-ounce bags of “Decaf Metcalf” coffee. Tessitore “blessed the deal,” according to Schefter, and he and Metcalf worked with Volcanica to ensure part of the proceeds go to charity. Metcalf will donate his portion to Prison Fellowship and Tessitore will donate his portion to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
It was an amusing gaffe during the broadcast, but it’s really cool to see something particularly positive come out of it.
