Complete list of opponents for Washington in 2020

Washington has had one of the more bizarre situations in the league in 2019. Trent Williams’ disappointment with the team’s medical staff, injuries, and the team’s quarterback carousel, were all contributing factors. Needless to say, theres a lot to unpack here.

Williams is still one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL, but refused to play for Washington after team personnel failed to properly evaluate a growth in his head, which he said turned out to be cancerous. Washington missed out on premium protection up front all year, which really set the team back. Veteran signal caller Alex Smith won’t play a snap this year because of the serious leg injury he suffered last year, and Jay Gruden was hesitant to give Dwayne Haskins an opportunity to play despite the lack of team success Case Keenum had under center. All this paired with a second consecutive injury-riddled season from Derrius Guice gave the team’s offense little to work with.

The team fired Gruden early in the season and has since fired team president Bruce Allen. Ron Rivera is rumored to be closing in on a deal to become the next head coach.

Offseason Needs

Although Washington reportedly received lucrative offers for Williams, they neglected to pull the trigger on any deals for the seven-time Pro Bowl player. It remains to be seen if he’ll stick around, although a front office overhaul might help. Regardless, Washington will need better protection up front given the uncertainty in their quarterback room and struggling health in the backfield.

Terry McLaurin has been a bright spot for Washington’s receiving corps and racked up 58 receptions for a team-leading 919 yards and seven touchdowns this year. But running back Chris Thompson’s 378 receiving yards ranked second on the team. That’s just unacceptable. Washington has to do a better job of finding pass catchers who can spread the field if they hope to improve their aerial attack in 2020.

2020 opponents

The 2019 NFL season is coming to a close and while the playoffs are just arriving, it’s time to start looking ahead to 2020. We won’t know the full regular season schedule until April, but even with the 2019 season not finished, we know each team’s list of opponents. The NFL has a formula they use to determine opponents, with divisions and conferences rotating each year.

Washington faces their divisional opponents a total of six times. The NFC East faces the NFC West, which adds four more opponents. The NFC Easst faces the AFC North, which adds four more opponents. The final two opponents are the teams that finish in the same standing position in the NFC South and NFC North.
