DeVante Parker nearing contract extension with Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have been unloading players left and right for draft picks, but they are on the verge of locking up a key cog for the next four years. Wide receiver DeVante Parker has had a breakout 2019 season and is close to signing a contract extension through the 2023 season, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The deal is reportedly worth over $40 million, per NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.

Parker showed some progress in year two of his career back in 2016, but the past two years he stalled out. He dealt with injuries and struggled with consistency. However, this season he has broken out in a big way. He has been targeted 95 times (one short of a career high) and heads into Week 15 with 55 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns.

Parker has been in the concussion protocol in Week 15, but had a full practice on Friday and appears set to play on Sunday. Barring a setback, he will likely surpass his career high in receptions. He already has career highs in yards and touchdowns.

The Dolphins receiver has a strong shot at surpassing 1,000 yards receiving for the season and is going to shoot up draft boards next summer. He’s not quite a clear cut No. 1 in fantasy, but he has become a solid No. 2 with upside depending on how the Dolphins improve their roster this offseason.
