Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson only needed 23 rushing yards to move past Michael Vick for the most by a QB in a single season in the NFL. The Ravens are taking on the Jets right now on Thursday Night Football, so you can imagine it wasn’t too hard for Baltimore’s QB to get there.
Jackson, the frontrunner for MVP, had 1,017 rushing yards heading into tonight, and has broken Vick’s record of 1,039 set back in 2006 with the Atlanta Falcons. He rushed for 20 yards on his first carry, tied Vick on his second carry of two yards, and broke Vick’s record on his third run of five yards.
Prior to the season, DraftKings Sportsbook installed a rushing yardage over/under of 875.5 yards, which he reached at the end of Week 12. His preseason rushing attempts over/under was set at 190.5. He entered tonight’s game with 151 rushing attempts.
Prior to the game, Vick told the Ravens’ website he was ready for the record to be broken.
“It’s a cool moment in sports, especially for Lamar and also for the Baltimore Ravens,” Vick said. “It’s something that everybody can be excited about. Breaking that record, it’s something I can honestly say I didn’t think I’d see for a long time. When Lamar was coming out of college, we had conversations. I used to tell him, ‘Play your game, be you.’ But I couldn’t even foresee Lamar doing this so quickly. It shows if you’re with the right teammates, the right coaches, the right organization, what can happen.”
The Ravens are on top of the AFC at 11-2 entering tonight’s game vs. the Jets and Jackson has the best odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to take home NFL MVP this season at -715. The record-breaking season only solidifies Jackson as the favorite to be most valuable player. If the Ravens can take down the Jets tonight, they’ll improve to 12-2 and extend their winning streak to 10 games.
