Report: Philip Rivers could get benched with another bad performance

The Los Angeles Chargers are sitting on the precipice of falling out of playoff contention, and it might cost quarterback Philip Rivers his job. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported the Chargers could make the move to Tyrod Taylor if things continue the way they have in recent weeks.

The Chargers have lost their last two games to drop to 4-7, and now sit two games back of several teams for the final wild card berth. In those two games, Rivers has thrown seven interceptions, fumbled twice, and completed passes at a 54 percent clip. The Chargers travel to face a decent Denver Broncos defense in Week 13.

Taylor has appeared in five games this season, with only one pass attempt to his name. He last had a consistent starting job in Buffalo, where he was the starter from 2015 to 2017. If he moved into the starting lineup, it’s difficult to say what he would mean to the offensive skill position players. He was a scrambling force in Buffalo, but it’s hard to tell what his legs are like at this point. Any fantasy value for Taylor directly would be related to his scrambling skills.
