Drew Lock could potentially start for Broncos sooner rather than later

The Denver Broncos have struggled to figure out their quarterback of the future, although they have struggled to do anything of note this season. Joe Flacco opened the season as the quarterback and Brandon Allen has since replaced him. Allen has struggled in three starts, completing 46.4 percent of his passes and throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions. This past weekend against a stout Buffalo Bills defense, Allen threw for 82 yards and one interception.

The Broncos spent a second round pick on Drew Lock this past year, and he now sits on injured reserve due to a thumb injury. His practice window was activated two weeks ago, and the team has until Tuesday, December 3rd to activate him to the roster.

On Monday, head coach Vic Fangio said all options are on the table. The team could activate him, and “possibly” starting him is on the table. Fangio said they need to make sure he’s prepared physically and emotionally to go out there and play. The Broncos host the Chargers this weekend, then travel to face Houston and Kansas City before finishing the season at home against Detroit and Oakland. Those games present sufficiently weak enough defenses that Lock could find some success.

Late last week, NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo said the team would start Lock if the opportunity presented itself. Considering how Allen is currently playing, that opportunity might present itself sooner rather than later.
