The NFL trade deadline arrives at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29th, and this offers the last chance for major moves to upgrade teams or grab draft picks. The waiver wire will continue to run, but the players on waivers are either bottom of the roster options or players with off-field issues that often means they won’t be picked up elsewhere.

The deadline is not quite as busy as that for baseball or basketball, but we’ve seen an uptick in volume. We’ll be tracking all the news and rumors through Tuesday afternoon.

Trade Rumors

Rams trading Aqib Talib, 5th to Dolphins for future pick

The Rams are dealing away and for cornerbacks left and right. A couple weeks after trading Marcus Peters and trading for Jalen Ramsey, they are now dealing Aqib Talib and a fifth round pick to the Miami Dolphins for a future pick, per Adam Schefter. Talib is currently on injured reserve and the team will need cap space to eventually re-sign Jalen Ramsey.

Cowboys ‘working hard on impactful deal,’ reach out to Jets on Jamal Adams

This tweet from Jean-Jacques Taylor will get tongues wagging, and maybe it’s connected to Ian Rapoport tweeting that the team has reached out to the Jets about Jamal Adams. Jets beat writer Rich Cimini tweeted that Adams is a hot name right now and it would not be shocking if he was traded. The Cowboys need some upgrades on defense, and Adams would be a big one — but at what cost?

Washington open to trading Trent Williams

Offensive tackle Trent Williams has been holding out in Washington due to a variety of displeasure that goes beyond his contract. It appears that after waiting and waiting, Washington might finally be willing to deal him, according to Ian Rapoport. They reportedly are asking for “big names” and asked for Denzel Ward before being shot down.

Jets looking to deal Le’Veon Bell

The Jets are “amenable” to trading away Bell, according to Manish Mehta. They struggled without Sam Darnold and now find themselves somewhere in a rebuilding process depending on who you ask. Mehta reported that Adam Gase did not want to sign Bell in the first place and considering they fired their GM after the fact, maybe Gase will get his way? If the Jets trade Bell, Bilal Powell would probably take over as their starting running back.

Dolphins trade Kenyan Drake to Arizona Cardinals for conditional draft pick

The Dolphins are tanking, and that means selling off assets for draft picks. There had been rumors they were shopping Drake for the past couple weeks, so this Monday, October 28th move was not surprising. The Dolphins get a sixth round pick that could become a fifth.

What was surprising was the Cardinals being the team. They were fine at running back until injuries to David Johnson and Chase Edmonds left them shorthanded. Johnson is out with an ankle injury, while Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury in Week 8 that could cost him a few weeks. Drake will be the short-term starter for Arizona, and then things will get sorted out when Johnson and Edmonds are healthy. Mark Walton secures the starter role in Miami.

49ers trade 3rd and 4th to Broncos for Emmanuel Sanders and 5th

The 49ers acquired Sanders on Tuesday, October 22nd after reports they were in on the Sanu sweepstakes. Sanders immediately becomes the 49ers best receiver, and while he’s an aging veteran in the final year of his contract, this suggests the 49ers think they can compete for a Super Bowl this season. In his debut, Sanders had four receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Patriots trade 2nd to Falcons for Mohamed Sanu

The Patriots placed Josh Gordon on injured reserve with a knee injury and added a replacement in Sanu, whom they acquired Tuesday, October 22nd. It is likely a late second considering their record, but it’s still impressive that the Falcons landed that much for Sanu. That being said, he offers a strong veteran presence. In his first game with the Patriots, Sanu caught two receptions for 23 yards and was targeted five times in the passing game.
