The San Francisco 49ers and Washington are engaged in a scoreless contest in a game that is effectively a slip-and-slide. The rain is coming down in sheets at FedEx Field, and neither team can get much of anything going. The game has reached halftime and is currently tied at 0-0.
It’s been over a season and a half since the NFL had a scoreless first half. In Week 17 of the 2017 season, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles were scoreless until the fourth quarter. At that point, Dak Prescott threw a touchdown and the Cowboys won 6-0. The Eagles had clinched a first round bye and were resting starters. Most notably, Nate Sudfeld started quarterback in place of starter Nick Foles.
It’s fitting that these are the kinds of games that go scoreless through a half. One was not really competitive, and the other involved absurd weather. Given how the first half looked, who knows when someone will score today at FedEx Field.
