The No. 6 Miami Dolphins and the No. 3 Kansas City Chiefs will face off in frigid temperatures on Saturday, January 13 at Arrowhead Stadium in the Wild Card round. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The Chiefs are 4.5-point home favorites, with the total set at 43.5. The Dolphins are notorious for their poor performances in cold weather games, but with a wind chill of -24° projected for the game, no one is getting much of an advantage in this one.

Point Spread

The public is leaning heavily on the Chiefs here, with 54% of wagers and 67% of dollars wagered placed on Kansas City to win by at least five points.

Is the public right?

Given the Dolphins’ record against teams with winning records this season and in cold-weather games for the last few years, the Chiefs are a smart bet here. These two teams played each other overseas earlier in the season in Germany with Kansas City holding on to win 21-14.

Given the weather forecast, the betting public is placing their money on a low-scoring matchup in Kansas City’s freezing temperatures. Just 21% of bets and 19% of dollars wagered have been placed on the over, with well over three quarters of both going to the under.

Is the public right?

Based on the weather forecast, the public is absolutely right. This is going to be a miserable one to play, and the Dolphins’ pass offense won’t be able to get off the ground when receivers can barely feel their fingers.

The Chiefs are -238 on the moneyline, and the Dolphins come in at +195. Despite the better money available on the Dolphins side, the public is riding with the Chiefs, placing 64% of bets and 68% of their money on the Chiefs to win this one.

While this type of weather can make any game unpredictable, this does seem like the safer bet here.
