Patriots vs. Steelers, Week 14: Pick against the spread

The Patriots (2-10) have already had a rough season, and the outlook just got worse. Star running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who was the Pats’ best offensive player this season, sustained an ankle injury in last week’s 6-0 loss to the Chargers. Stevenson will be out for several weeks, and the Patriots will be eliminated from the playoffs with a loss or tie in this game. Their only two wins this season have come against the Bills and the Jets, and they have not won a game in well over a month. We can expect New England to start focusing on the 2024 offseason and draft.

The Steelers (7-5) were on the receiving end of some bad luck last week, as well. Quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury in a Week 13 loss to the Cardinals and had to get surgery following the game. Backup Mitch Trubisky will be starting for the next several games as Pickett recovers. The Steelers are right on the edge of playoff contention, tied for a Wild Card bid with the Colts, Browns, and Texans.

Despite Pickett’s absence, the Steelers still have a solid offensive presence and will benefit from Trubisky’s experience as a starter. They can focus on the run game here, and their defense should do the rest. Steelers cover at home.
