The Carolina Panthers will play their first game without Frank Reich on the sideline. The head coach was fired after the team’s latest loss, their 10th this season. It was the second year in a row the Panthers have booted the head coach during the season. Interim Chris Tabor will be on the sidelines this week when they head south to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
While their struggles are nothing quite like what the 1-10 Panthers have gone through this season, the Buccaneers are having a tough time of it too. They’re 4-7 and have lost six of their last seven games. But they are favored by 5.5 points over the Panthers, who have failed to cover in each of their last six games in Florida and are just 1-8-2 against the spread this season.
But maybe Carolina will get a little bounce from the coaching change, which could make this one interesting. Kickoff is at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Here are some player props we like this week. Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Panthers vs. Bucs player prop bets
Adam Thielen — Over 5.5 receptions (-115)
Thielen was a reception magnet earlier in the season, so much so that he had three 11-reception games in the first six weeks of the season. But that production has dipped as the season has gone on, as he had one reception last week against the Titans last week. Still, he’s cleared this over in all but three weeks this season and should see plenty of volume as the Panthers will likely simplify their playbook after firing Reich.
Chuba Hubbard — Under 46.5 rushing yards (-120)
Sure, Hubbard’s had two straight games with double-digit carries, but it still doesn’t change the fact Miles Sanders exists behind him. Hubbard’s hit this under in three of his last five games, and will be going against a Buccaneers defense that has the ninth-best rushing defense in the NFL.
Mike Evans — anytime touchdown (+160)
Evans has scored a touchdown in three straight games and is Baker Mayfield’s favorite red zone target, so I love this prop at plus money. Additionally, Evans caught three touchdowns against the Panthers in Week 17, and has caught a touchdown in four of his last five games against Carolina.
