The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 18. The Buccaneers are win and in and if they can beat the Panthers, they will lock down the NFC South division title and a top-four seed in the NFC playoff picture. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been an important part of getting the team into this spot, but is dealing with a rib injury.
Baker Mayfield injury updates
Friday PM update: Despite being called a “full go” by Bowles, Mayfield has been listed as questionable for the game.
Friday update: Head coach Todd Bowles said on Friday that Mayfield is “full go” for Sunday’s game against the Panthers.
Thursday update: Mayfield was seen at practice on Thursday. It was noted by local reporters that he did appear to be having a light day. He will likely be listed as a limited participant once the practice report drops later in the afternoon.
Wednesday update: Mayfield is not practicing to begin the week. This isn’t concerning at this point, but if he doesn’t ramp up in participation throughout the week, that is when we may start to wonder if he will play.
Fantasy football analysis
Mayfield has played in 16 games and has thrown for 3,907 yards with 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has played well enough and heads into this week as the overall QB9 in fantasy football. Mayfield is ranked ahead of guys like C.J. Stroud, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Justin Fields and exceeded expectations for his season.
Despite how bad their season went, the Panthers actually did a good job of limiting opposing quarterbacks this year. They allow the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. He finished 14-of-29 against Carolina in Week 13 for 202 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Mayfield finished as the QB19 that week. He is a tough start this week, but with plenty of starting quarterbacks getting rest and not playing, you could do worse. Start Mayfield in 12-team leagues or larger.
