Christian McCaffrey is OUT ahead of Week 18 vs. Rams

Christian McCaffrey is dealing with a calf strain going into Week 17 vs. the Rams. We break down the news for fantasy football and betting.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey will not play in Week 18 due to his calf strain. With this week, the bye and the week before the Divisional Round, that will give him close to three weeks of needed rest for his calf.

This is of course a killer for those win Week 18 fantasy football championships, but with the No. 1 seed already wrapped up, McCaffrey likely wouldn’t have played much even if he was healthy.

Christian McCaffrey injury updates

McCaffrey has been ruled out for Week 18. We’ll see him in the Divisional Round.

Fantasy football analysis

The question with McCafrey out is if Eli Mitchell will play in Week 18 and if he will play enough to be a useful fantasy back. If we knew he would play, he would be a great start, but there’s a real chance he does not play or doesn’t play much. Mitchell has dealt with injuries all season and with McCaffrey banged up, they might not want to risk injury. If so, Jordan Mason would be the next man up.

Betting analysis

With both teams already in the playoffs, this game has a lot of variables that we can’t truly account for.
