The Seattle Seahawks will have a big NFC West matchup in Week 14 when hitting the road to battle the first-place San Francisco 49ers. Starting quarterback Geno Smith is dealing with a groin injury ahead of the contest and his status will be something to monitor heading into the weekend.
Geno Smith injury updates
Friday PM update: Smith wasn’t spotted at practice, per Bob Condotta. But, he is already listed as questionable for Week 14. If Sean Mannion is elevated from the practice squad on Saturday, it would be a bad sign for Smith’s prospects.
Friday update: Seattle signed veteran journeyman Sean Mannion to its practice squad on Friday, coming just one day after Smith was listed as a limited participant in practice on Thursday. This could be viewed as the Seahawks getting their contingency plans in place in case Smith weren’t able to go for Sunday’s game and something happened to backup Drew Lock.
Fantasy football analysis
Smith’s injury should be a bit concerning for the Seahawks, who have lost four of their five games and are trying to avoid sliding out of the NFC playoff race. On the fantasy front, the veteran QB entered Week 14 as the No. 17 fantasy QB, averaging 15.1 FP per game. He’s thrown for just under 3,000 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions on the year so far.
Smith was already a backup QB in most fantasy leagues and if you have him on your roster, I’d go ahead and defer to other options this week.
San Francisco is already an 11-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook heading into this game. If Smith is unable to go, that number will most likely rise.
