The New Orleans Saints will take on the Carolina Panthers in a Week 14 battle in the NFC South. Quarterback Derek Carr is in the league’s concussion protocol and is also dealing with both rib and shoulder injuries. If he isn’t able to play this week, New Orleans could turn to either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill under center.
Derek Carr injury updates
Friday PM update: Carr is officially questionable, but was able to get in a full practice on Friday. He just needs to be cleared by an independent neurologist to be able to play Sunday.
Friday update: Carr once again practiced, but is still in concussion protocol, per Erin Summers. He appears very close to being cleared, but not just yet. We should know on Saturday, if not earlier.
Wednesday update: Carr was spotted back at practice on Wednesday. He said that he feels pretty good regarding the rib and shoulder injury and expects the only thing that would sideline him would be a concussion if he can’t clear protocols.
Fantasy football analysis
Whether it is from his own play or the fact his main pass-catchers keep getting hurt, Carr enters this week as the overall QB21. He hasn’t been fantasy-relevant except for the deepest of leagues. The Panthers have had a season to forget, but that doesn’t mean you can just bet against them in fantasy football. Carolina’s defense allows the third-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Even if Carr is healthy for the matchup, it will be best to sit him.
