The Miami Dolphins have a big-time Week 17 showdown against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is dealing with an ankle injury ahead of the contest. Waddle sustained the injury in the third quarter of last week’s 22-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, ending his day with just one catch for two yards.
Jaylen Waddle injury updates
Friday update: Waddle is officially out this week against the Ravens. His absence will mean more emphasis on Tyreek Hill both offensively and defensively. Cedrick Wilson is the most likely receiver to see extra work with Waddle out, but Braxton Berrios should also be called upon more than usual as well.
Thursday update: Waddle missed practice for a second straight day this afternoon and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he is not expected to suit up for Sunday’s game. The Dolphins have yet to give a designation for Waddle’s status, but him missing back-to-back practices isn’t a good sign for his chances at playing.
Fantasy football analysis
Waddle potentially missing this game would be the case of the Dolphins skill position group being a revolving door. He entered Week 17 as a top 25 receiver in fantasy, averaging 14.2 FP per game in PPR leagues with 72 receptions for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns on the year.
If he is ruled out, that means potentially more work for top fantasy wideout Tyreek Hill. That could also mean more targets for tight end Durham Smythe, who came away with five receptions for 56 yards against the Cowboys last Sunday.
