The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Carolina Panthers for their Week 17 matchup this Sunday and quarterback Trevor Lawrence is dealing with a shoulder injury ahead of this New Year’s Eve contest. Lawrence has been beat up throughout the month of December, dealing with an ankle injury, a concussion, and now an injury to his right shoulder.

Jacksonville has lost four straight games and with the AFC South title up for grabs, it can ill afford to lose its franchise QB.

Trevor Lawrence injury updates

Friday update: Lawrence has been ruled out due to his shoulder sprain. C.J. Beathard will get the start.

Thursday update - Lawrence returned to practice today as a limited participant per head coach Doug Pederson. The QB did not practice on Wednesday, so him stepping back onto the field is a positive sign for his ability to go this weekend.

Fantasy football analysis

Lawrence enters Week 17 as the No. 12 QB in fantasy and the last two weeks for him has been ugly. In games against the Ravens and Buccaneers, he’s thrown for 475 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions, and three fumbles lost. Those numbers have earned fantasy managers just 26 combined points through two weeks, which is not what you want to see deep into the fantasy playoffs.

There is a chance for a bounce back game this Sunday with the Jaguars playing the league’s worst team in the Panthers. However, most leagues are holding their championship games this week and with Lawrence’s struggles/injuries as of late, you should think long and hard about putting him into your lineup with the season on the line. If you have a top 10 fantasy QB on your roster that you can lean on as an alternate option, then I’d go with them.

Betting analysis

With Lawrence dealing with a shoulder injury, I’d expect more touches for Jaguars running backs like starter Travis Etienne. Take the over on any of his rushing props because it could be a big afternoon for him.
