The Denver Broncos will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17. Denver pulled a head-scratching move to begin the week and have benched quarterback Russell Wilson due to financial reasons. He may not be the only player missing in action as starting wide receiver Courtland Sutton remains in the league’s concussion protocol.

Courtland Sutton injury updates

Friday update: Sutton didn’t practice this week due to his concussion and has been ruled out. Jerry Jeudy, Marvin Mims and Brandon Johnson should be the main receivers on the field in Week 18.

Wednesday update: Sutton remains in the league’s concussion protocol and did not practice to begin the week.

Fantasy football analysis

Sutton leads the Broncos in receptions (58), targets (86), yards (770) and touchdowns (10). Brandon Johnson has the second-most receiving touchdowns on the team with four to show how much of an impact losing Sutton would have. The Broncos are already going to be down their starting quarterback, and the game would become that much harder without their top wide receiver.

Sutton heads into this week as the overall WR26 in half-PPR fantasy football leagues. If he is active, he can be started in 12-team leagues or larger as, despite the production, he will take a hit with Jarrett Stidham as his quarterback. The Chargers allow the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. If Sutton can’t suit up, Jerry Jeudy would get a boost, but likely still wouldn’t be startable in leagues with fewer than 12 teams.
