Inactives update: Mattison is officially active, but shouldn’t be in your fantasy lineups this week. All signs point toward Ty Chandler taking over as the lead back.

Game day update: The Vikings expect to have Alexander Mattison, per Tom Pelissero, but Ty Chandler is expected to get the starting role and more of the work.

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison sat out of the Vikings’ Week 15 loss to the Bengals after sustaining an ankle injury in Week 14 against the Raiders. Mattison did not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, but returned as a limited participant on Friday. Mattison is listed as questionable heading into the Vikings’ Week 16 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy football analysis

Ty Chandler has carried the majority of the load in the backfield in Mattison’s absence, and given Mattison’s middling performance this season (he is currently RB34 and has yet to score a touchdown), Chandler may take over the RB1 role even in the case of Mattison’s return. Whether or not Mattison plays, we can expect to see Chandler continue to get plenty of opportunities in the run game.

NFL DFS analysis

Mattison comes in at $5300 as a FLEX in daily fantasy at DraftKings Sportsbook. Chandler comes in at just $300 more.

Betting analysis

Mattison’s presence is unlikely to seriously affect the outcome of the game, as he has not been a significant piece of the offense this season. He may take some rushing yards from Chandler, but even that isn’t a guarantee, as Mattison is still questionable and could be limited.
