Report: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts downgraded to questionable for MNF vs. Seahawks in Week 15

Philly QB didn’t practice Saturday due to an illness but was expected to play. Now, his status for this week is in question as he battles an illness.

Update — Hurts has been downgraded to questionable to play in Week 15 vs. the Seahawks on MNF, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. If Hurts is unable to play, the Eagles will start QB Marcus Mariota in a big spot. The Eagles enter MNF as 3-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. We could see that line shift as Hurts’ status becomes iffy. The hope is for Hurts to play, per NBC Sports. Plus, Jay Glazer reported the expectation is for Hurts to play.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is dealing with an illness and did not practice on Saturday ahead of the team’s Monday Night Football matchup vs. the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, per Jeff McClane of the Philly Inquirer. Hurts is traveling with the team to Seattle and it doesn’t appear the illness will impact his ability to play. However, this popping up so late in the week is worth noting. It’s a huge game for the Eagles, who are 10-3 but are coming off back-to-back losses. One to the Cowboys that knocked them out of first place in the NFC East.

If you have Hurts in fantasy football this isn’t the news you want to hear, but it could be worse. An illness is never easy to play through but you’d expect Hurts to go out there and give 100% to try and get the win. If Philly falters at all down the stretch it will mean losing a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC and first place in the division. That would mean going on the road in the Wild Card round of the playoffs vs. playing at home or getting the bye. The Eagles also have an easy last three games (two against the Giants, one against the Cardinals). So taking care of business on the road vs. the Seahawks is important (plus it’s a conference game, which matters for tiebreakers).

A this point, there’s no reason to react one way or the other after this news. We don’t have a ton of information or specifics and the report says Hurts will travel and play. Usually in the NFL if a player is active and playing, you shouldn’t expect them to be held back at all. The flip side is the Eagles are reeling a bit. Hurts hasn’t been great this season and even more so the past few weeks where he’s had a passer rating under 90. Even in wins over the Chiefs and Bills, Hurts was off and didn’t have great games.

Even before this news, there was reason to take a long look at Seahawks +3 on DraftKings Sportsbook, or even Seattle ML at +145. Again, it’s a virtual must-win game for the Seahawks, who are 6-7 and tied with four other teams in the NFC standings. Seattle is a tough enough place to play and the Eagles will be missing their top cover corner in Darius Slay. The Seahawks are expected to get QB Geno Smith back from injury and it could mean open season for WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Be sure to monitor betting splits if you can. Right now, the Eagles are getting a heavy amount of the money and bets on the spread and moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. If we start to see that trend in the other direction a bit, we could see the line move. If you see the splits going in Seattle’s favor, it may be wise to get a bet in on the spread or ML before the odds shift. It’s just an illness for Hurts but it could impact his play, which hadn’t been good lately anyway.
