Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert couldn’t have picked a worse time to get injured. It’s the end of the fantasy football regular season and we’re into the first round of the playoffs in almost all fantasy leagues in Week 15. So if you had Herbert as your starting QB, you could be in a major bind if you’re in a deeper league with 12+ teams. If you’re in a 10-team league (first of all, grow up), get out of here, you can probably add someone decent for the playoffs. Let’s go over streaming options to replace Herbert.
Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 15
Replacements for QB Justin Herbert
Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers — If you’re in a shallow league, Mayfield should be available and isn’t a bad option, especially if you have that first-round bye in the fantasy playoffs. The Bucs play the Packers next week, which is a tougher matchup. But the Bucs play the Jaguars in Week 16, which is a good matchup for QBs. We also know Tampa Bay should still be vying for first place in the NFC South division. Expect Mayfield to be available in around 50-60% of leagues at this point, so long as there aren’t many teams. In deeper leagues, Mayfield may be tougher to find.
Gardner Minshew, Colts — Minshew Mania continues with Indianapolis in the thick of the AFC South division race. The Colts are coming off a tough loss to the Bengals in Week 14. But Minshew has generally been good for at least double-digit fantasy points. That isn’t the greatest stat ever but if you’re grasping at straws for a QB, getting to around 10-15 fantasy points is fine. Beggars can’t be choosers in this scenario. The Colts have a tough matchup vs. the Steelers in Week 15 but get the Falcons in a very winnable game the following week. So again, if you have the Week 15 bye in the fantasy playoffs, Minshew isn’t a bad option to snag. Minshew is likely available in more fantasy leagues than Mayfield.
Joe Flacco, Browns — Is it absolute insanity to consider adding Flacco as your QB down the stretch to replace Herbert? Not really. He’s played well in two starts, at least for fantasy purposes, with at least 20 fantasy points. This past week he looked like vintage Elite Joe Flacco, throwing for over 300 yards and three TDs, good to finish among the top-12 QBs this week. The Browns play the Bears and Texans the next two weeks, which aren’t bad matchups. Flacco should be available in almost all formats.
Other options: Jake Browning, CIN; Bailey Zappe, NE; Zach Wilson, NYJ
