The Los Angeles Chargers will visit the New England Patriots for their Week 13 matchup this Sunday and wide receiver Keenan Allen is dealing with a quad injury ahead of the contest. The All-Pro missed practice on Wednesday and this should be a concern for a Chargers team that is fading out of the AFC playoff race.

Keenan Allen injury updates

Friday PM update: Allen was able to get in a limited practice and is listed as questionable. If I had to guess, I’d say he’ll play, but thankfully we don’t have to guess, as we’ll know if he’ll suit up or not at 11:30 EST when they give us the inactives.

Friday update: Allen has returned to practice, per Kris Rhim. Allen has played through injuries for much of the season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go this week, but he will likely be listed as questionable. We’ll need to learn more about his status as we close in on Sunday.

Thursday update: Allen didn’t practice on Thursday according to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, but was seen working off to the side. That’s the second straight day where he’s missed practice, but him working out is a positive indication. His status on Friday will most likely determine if he’ll be able to go for this road matchup.

Fantasy football analysis

In the midst of a three-game losing streak, Los Angeles can ill afford to lose Allen, even if it is against the lowly Patriots. The veteran Pro Bowler has already amassed 97 receptions for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns this season and enters Week 13 as the No. 2 fantasy WR. If he’s unable to go, rookie Quentin Johnston would be the top receiver option.

Betting analysis

If Allen isn’t able to go, then running back Austin Ekeler will most likely be in a position where he’d have to do everything for the Chargers offense. In this scenario, I’d take the over on his receiving yards for the game.
