New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed suffered a quad injury in their 24-15 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. He suffered the injury in the first half and did not return to the NFC South matchup. The second-year wideout is one of a handful of Saints skill position players dealing with injury ahead of their Week 13 home matchup against the Detroit Lions this Sunday.
Rashid Shaheed injury updates
Friday update: As expected, Shaheed has been ruled out for Week 13 with a quad injury. The hope is that this is a short-term injury. It is looking better for Chris Olave this week, so the Saints might not be down as many WRs as we once thought.
Thursday update: Shaheed didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday. His availability for the game this week is in serious doubt, and he is not expected to play.
Monday PM update: New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill reported that Shaheed will likely be unavailable this week due to his quad injury. This came after head coach Dennis Allen said that he had a “pretty good little quad injury” and didn’t give a timetable for a possible return.
Fantasy football analysis
Shaheed has been a productive member for the Saints offense and has been a decent flex option for fantasy managers throughout the season. Hauling in 33 receptions for 534 yards and three touchdowns, he’s averaging 10.2 FP in PPR leagues and is currently the 42nd ranked fantasy receiver in the league.
New Orleans could be in major trouble this Sunday as its wide receiver room has been obliterated by injuries. Chris Olave is in concussion protocol and Michael Thomas was placed on IR with a knee injury last week. If the Saints’ three primary receivers are unable to go this Sunday, we could see rookie AT Perry get plenty of targets as well as tight ends Taysom Hill and Juwan Johnson.
Any Alvin Kamara receiving prop you see, take the over. He’s mostly likely going to get a heaping helping of touches with the receiver room banged up this week.
