The NBA has invited Mac McClung back to to the 2024 Slam Dunk Contest to defend his title from last year, according to Shams Charania. McClung defeated Trey Murphy III, Jericho Sims and Kenyon Martin Jr. in last year’s competition to become the first G League player ever to win the Dunk Contest. While McClung hasn’t officially accepted the invitation, he’s likely to participate again.

McClung is still in the G League and as noted by Charania, he’s crushing it there. He’s the reigning Player of the Month, averaging 25.4 points, 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Magic’s G League squad. McClung briefly spent time with the 76ers last year as a two-way player, and also has stints with the Lakers and Bulls. He was on the Warriors for Summer League but didn’t make the final roster. The dunk contest could be his domain though. He got the full 50 points on three of his four dunks a year ago, so we’ll see if he can replicate that feat or improve on it this year.
