The NBA unveiled its regular-season schedule on Friday for the 2021-2022 season. The schedule runs from October 19th to April 10. The schedule will feature plenty of quality matchups, but arguably the biggest will feature the Brooklyn Nets facing the Los Angeles Lakers in a battle of the super teams.
The two teams will meet twice this season. The first matchup will be on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25th at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The second matchup will be Tuesday, January 25 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Many fans and analysts believe that the Nets or Lakers will be holding the Larry O’Brien trophy next summer. Brooklyn is currently the favorite to win the NBA title at +210 odds, according DraftKings Sportsbook. The Lakers have the second-best odds at +380 odds, which we’ll likely see switch throughout the season.
Brooklyn split the season series against the Lakers last season, winning the first game 109-98 at Staples Center. Kevin Durant did not play in that game, which meant it was the James Harden and Kyrie Irving show.
Harden had a double-double consisting of 23 points and 11 rebounds. Irving added 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in the victory. For the Lakers, they were without All-Star forward Anthony Davis, which means LeBron James had to shoulder the load. James had a game-high 32 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the field, to go along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
In their in last meeting, the Lakers got their revenge on the Nets, defeating them 126-101 at the Barclays Center. Los Angeles got the win without James or Davis, while the Nets only had Durant and Irving.
As we look forward to this season’s matchup, we’ll see two of the best teams in the NBA on paper face off twice. The Nets have one of the more formidable big 3s with Durant, Irving, and Harden, while the Lakers have a brand new big 3 with the likes of James, Davis, and Russell Westbrook.
