The Boston Celtics have agreed to a four-year, $77.1 million maximum contract extension, according to Shams Charania. Smart’s deal includes a trade kicker, but does not have a player option according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The guard is known for his toughness and defense, but he’ll be leaned on to provide a boost offensively for the retooling Celtics. Smart averaged 13.1 points, 5.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds across 48 games. He’ll be expected to take another step forward and grow with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, are +2200 to win the Eastern conference and +5000 to win the NBA title. Boston has made the playoffs in seven straight seasons, but underwent significant change in the offseason. Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier are gone and Brad Stevens has moved to a role in the front office. Ime Udoka will be the head coach for the team this year.
