NBA Summer League roundup: Mobley’s Cavs prevails over Suggs’ Magic

We’re tracking all the action for Wednesday’s slate of Summer League games in Las Vegas.

The 2021 NBA Summer League slate continues in Las Vegas on Wednesday with seven games tipping off.

The marquee game of Wednesday’s slate featured Evan Mobley and the Cleveland Cavaliers toppling Jalen Suggs’ Orlando Magic 94-84.The No. 3 overall pick Mobley put up 14 points and showed his versatility on both sides of the floor while the No. 5 overall pick Suggs led his group with 16.

Another pair of lottery picks will do battle at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN 2 when No. 4 overall pick Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors tussles with No. 7 pick Jonathan Kuminga of the Warriors.

NBA Summer League recaps

Nets 97, Bucks 91

Rookie guard Cam Thomas out of LSU once again impressed for the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas, putting up 22 points and four assists in the team’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Hanging on to a slim two-point lead late, the 27th overall pick buried a three with 1:13 left to give Brooklyn enough separation to seal the victory. Quinndary Weatherspoon provided 15 points and was followed by Reggie Perry with 13 in the win.

Jordan Nwora led the Bucks with 22 points and six boards but committed five turnovers in the loss. Theo Pinson provided 13 points, six assists, and five steals.

Heat 97, Grizzlies 94

Tied at 94 and in sudden death overtime, Miami Heat shooting guard Max Strus rebounded the tipoff, took the ball up court, and ruthlessly buried a dagger three-pointer that lifted the Heat over the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Strus was on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down seven threes to finish with 32 points along with nine rebounds.

Sean McDermott and Ziaire Williams both delivered 19-point efforts for Memphis in the loss. John Knochar had a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.

Cavaliers 94, Magic 84

No. 3 overall pick Evan Mobley was versatile on Wednesday, providing 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as his Cavaliers picked up the win over Orlando on Wednesday. He wasn’t alone as Isaac Okoro offered up 15 points and Trevon Blueitt had 14 in the winning effort.

No. 5 overall pick Jalen Suggs did his part in the loss, racking up 16 points, eight boards, and five assists on Wednesday. D.J. Hogg and Franz Wagner combined for 25 points for the Magic.

Pelicans 80, Thunder 65

Pelicans top performer: Naji Marshall — 18 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists
Thunder top performer: Aaron Wiggins — 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists

Warriors 90, Raptors 84

Warriors top performer: Gary Payton II — 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
Raptors top performer: Dalano Banton — 10 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists

Jazz 81, Mavericks 80

Jazz top performer: Trent Forrest — 16 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists
Mavericks top performer: Eugene Omoruyi — 16 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assists

Knicks 91, Lakers 82

Knicks top performer: Miles McBride — 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists
Lakers top performer: Devontae Cacok — 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
