The 2021 NBA draft will take place Thursday, July 29 with the Detroit Pistons holding the No. 1 pick. The Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic round out the top five selections.

We take a look at some of the prospects available in this draft, gauge their strengths, weaknesses, NBA comparisons and best landing spot within the player’s projected draft range. Here’s a breakdown for G-League Ignite forward Jonathan Kuminga

Strengths

Kuminga is an athletic forward with a lot of potential, but he’s not really a go-to scorer yet. Kuminga’s handles are great for his size and his athleticism shows on the court. The development curve is intriguing given his time in the G-League. He is fairly new to basketball as a sport, so the early returns are good. His rebounding is excellent as well.

Weaknesses

He will require a lot of development to turn potential into production, meaning the team has to have patience with him. He’s also a poor perimeter shooter and an inconsistent defender at the moment, but is still learning the game.

Player Comparison

Kuminga’s best player comparison is Jeff Green, but he can also look similar to Pascal Siakam if the shooting comes around.

Best Landing Spot

Prospect development is key when looking at a landing spot for Kuminga. The team has to have a track record of growing talent, but also needs to have patience. Kuminga is expected to go high in the lottery, maybe even in the top five. The Oklahoma City Thunder are the best fit given their history of drafting and developing and the rebuilding process they’re currently undergoing. The Raptors are also an option given their history with Siakam, who has similar skills to Kuminga.
