The Dallas Mavericks were eliminated from the 2021 NBA Playoffs on Sunday afternoon by the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7. Luka Doncic did everything he could to get the Mavs into the second round for the first time in his career, scoring 46 points in the 126-111 loss. Now that Dallas is out, the team can focus its attention on signing Doncic to a max $200 million extension this summer. Luka hinted at what he may end up doing this offseason to Marc Stein of the New York Times.
Luka Doncic on signing the looming $200 million contract extension he will be offered this summer: "I think you know the answer."
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) June 7, 2021
According to Stein, the early indication is that a Doncic contract extension would be slightly above $200 million over five years. Bobby Marks of ESPN also went into this a little bit more and how the contract might break down over those five years given the salary cap is $115 million in 2022-23.
Here is the breakdown on what a Luka Doncic extension would look like:
— Bobby Marks (@BobbyMarks42) June 7, 2021
2022-23 | $34.7M
2023-24 | $37.5M
2024-25 | $40.3M
2025-26 | $43.1M
2026-27 | $45.9M
This is based on a $115M cap in 2022-23
