The Bucks have lost three of five with those three losses sandwiched between two big wins over the Philadelphia 76ers. It seems Milwaukee can never help itself get closer to the Sixers and Brooklyn Nets at the top. The Bucks had been 2.0 games out of first and are back down to 3.5 games. They still have 4.0 games on the New York Knicks, but getting first place in the East could be huge. It’s the difference between playing the Charlotte Hornets or another play-in team or facing the Miami Heat or Boston Celtics in the first round.
The Hornets are headed toward the playoff picture, likely in the play-in tournament in May. LaMelo Ball could make a huge impact on whether the Hornets advance in the play-in tournament or bow out early. Last week, we had an update that Melo could end up returning this season, the team saying he’ll be looked at again this week. There was a chance Ball was going to be able to return around the end of the month. That seems less likely now that we haven’t heard an update and coach James Borrego said there’s “no way to predict” when the rookie will be ready.
