Stephen Curry is setting the basketball world on fire. The Golden State Warriors star scored 49 points in a thrilling win over the Philadelphia 76ers and has now scored more than 30 points in 11 straight games. The 33-year-old has eclipsed 40 points five times during that stretch and is making an interesting case for himself as the potential league MVP and scoring leader.
Curry’s Monday performance brought his MVP odds from +10000 to +2000 at DraftKings Sportsbook. He now only trails Nikola Jokic (-400) and Joel Embiid (+235), and is tied with Giannis Antetokounmpo (+2000). It’ll take a lot of work for Curry to catch the cream of the crop, but getting to where he is now has been an amazing feat on its own. Let’s take a look at some of Curry’s most impressive stats from his hot streak.
It’s no secret that Curry can get score efficiently off the catch or off the dribble, but this nugget from Warriors Outsiders’ Drew Shiller is ridiculous.
Steph Curry from deep over his last 11 games:
— Drew Shiller (@DrewShiller) April 20, 2021
-0 dribbles = 28 for 56 (50 percent)
-1 dribble = 10 for 19 (53 percent)
-2 dribbles = 2 for 9 (22 percent)
-3 to 6 dribbles = 10 for 27 (37 percent)
-7 or more dribbles = 22 for 32 (69 percent) = insanity!!!
Curry’s sky-high TS% (66.5) speaks to his efficiency, but that doesn't make it clear how otherworldly he’s been completely clear. Curry is the first player in NBA history to average 40 points on 54% shooting for an 11-game stretch, according to Warriors vice president of communications Raymond Ridder.
Only seven players in the last 40 seasons have scored 30 or more points for 11 straight games, and James Harden is the only other player on the list who’s not a center. Other notable names on the list include Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Curry has made 72 threes over his last 11 games, and here are some of the best shots he’s made along the way.
