UPDATE: March 28 — Drummond intends to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Once Andre Drummond clears waivers at 5 PM ET, he intends to sign with the Lakers, his agent Jeff Schwartz of @excelbasketball tells ESPN.

UPDATE: March 26 — The Boston Celtics have emerged as a potential destination for free agent center Andre Drummond, Marc Stein of The New York Times reported Friday evening. Drummond was bought out by the Cavs earlier in the day. He’s expected to be pursued by a bunch of contending teams.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and C Andre Drummond have reached an agreement on a contract buyout, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers were unable to trade Drummond before the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday at 3 PM ET. Drummond is in the final year of his contract with a salary of $28.7 million in 2020-21. Drummond will be free to sign with any team once he clears waivers.

The Cavaliers have been sitting Drummond since the beginning of February in anticipation of this move. Cleveland acquired young C Jarrett Allen in the four-team trade involving James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets. Allen has been starting ever since and has played well. So there really wasn’t a place for Drummond to clog up the lineup and steal minutes from younger players.
There are plenty of teams who will vie for Drummond’s services as a rebounder and rim protector in the paint. The Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are a few teams who have been linked to Drummond in reports. The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are also expected to be involved.
