Report: Celtics finalizing deal to acquire Evan Fournier for picks

The Orlando Magic are finalizing a deal to send veteran guard Evan Fournier to the Boston Celtics for two second-round picks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday afternoon. The Magic just sent All-Star C Nikola Vucevic to the Chicago Bulls for a big package in a vintage WOJ BOMB. Orlando is not expected to be done today. Chances are Aaron Gordon is the next Magic player to go. The Celtics make their first move of the day, adding some depth on the wing.

UPDATE: Jeff Teague will be included in the deal for Fournier, per reports. So Teague will go to the Magic and immediately be waived and free to sign with another team.

The Celtics are getting another additional scorer on the wing in Evan Fournier. It remains to be seen what role he has, especially with Boston already having Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. This season, Fournier is averaging 19.7 points per game, while shooting 46.1% from the field and 38.8% from three-point range.

From a fantasy perspective, he should be a solid DFS play probably ranging between $7K-8K on a given night. Fournier has the ability to score 20 points on any night, but that could take a step back on a Celtics’ squad that features Kemba Walker, Tatum, and Brown. Meanwhile, for the Magic, their rebuilding continues as they get a couple of future second-round picks for the veteran guard.

The Celtics are +1200 to win the East and make it to the NBA Finals. Those odds aren’t as good as you’d think for a team holding down the 8-seed in the conference. Still, Boston adding Fournier gives the team a boost and if the Celtics can get back on track, they’ve got the pieces to make a run. The line should move, maybe up to 10/1 if the Celtics strike another deal. The Celtics also sit 30/1 to win the NBA Championship this season. Fournier doesn’t move the needle a ton, but Boston may not be done yet.
