UPDATE: Jan. 15, 11:04 a.m. — Irving has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for violating health and safety protocols. The League ruled that Irving attended a private indoor party with more than 15 people, which was in violation of the rules. He was subject to a five-day quarantine and if he tests negative for Covid-19, will be allowed to return to team activities on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Irving was docked two game checks for missing Tuesday and Wednesday games. That means he forfeited up to $1.6 million in salary for missing the past four games for the Nets.

The NBA is investigating Brooklyn Nets PG Kyrie Irving after a video surfaced of the All-Star allegedly attending a birthday party of a family member maskless while being away from the team due to personal reasons. Irving has missed the past three games after leaving the team and has been ruled out Tuesday night against the Denver Nuggets.

Update: Nets GM Sean Marks has released a statement on the Irving situation:

Here is the alleged video of Irving attending a birthday party without wearing a mask courtesy of Billy Reinhardt, a Nets reporter for NetsDaily and SBNation contributor. As Reinhardt mentions, both Kyrie’s Dad and Sister have birthdays this week. This is somewhat similar to what we saw with Rockets All-Star James Harden attending strip clubs and birthday parties without a mask on. Irving may need to quarantine as a result once he returns from his hiatus.
