Giannis wins 2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year

Bucks All-Star beats out Lakers PF Anthony Davis and Jazz C Rudy Gobert to take home award.

Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo will receive the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award for 2019-20, Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill and Chris Haynes reported late Tuesday. Giannis is expected to beat out Lakers PF Anthony Davis and Jazz C Rudy Gobert for the award, per Yahoo.

The Bucks All-Star finished the regular season averaging 13.6 rebounds per game, second most in the League behind Pistons C Andre Drummond. Giannis also averaged 1.0 steal and 1.0 blocks per game in the regular season. Anchoring Milwaukee’s defense, Giannis helped the Bucks lead the league in defensive rating at 102.5. The Bucks allowed the second fewest second chance points (11.3) and held opponents to an average 41.4% from the floor, best in the NBA. Milwaukee was also top 10 in points allowed at 108.6 per game.
