The NBA is inching closer to a return at the end of July. The 22 teams participating in the restart of the 2019-20 season have made their way to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Training Camps for each team will run from July 9 through July 29 with scrimmages right up to the season reopening on July 30. With the Indiana Pacers beginning training camp, we’ll be tracking all the latest news and injuries here.
Indiana Pacers Training Camp news updates
July 19 — Sabonis limited by foot injury
Pacers coach Nate McMillan told reporters in the bubble over the weekend that a few players are dealing with ailments. Domantas Sabonis has a foot issue that has limited him in practices. Jakarr Sampson and Goga Bitadze are also dealing with injuries, though they aren’t specified. Sabonis’ issue doesn’t sound too serious, which is good.
July 13 — Victor Oladipo aiming for return to Pacers
Oladipo opted out of playing in Orlando in July to continue rehabbing the leg injury he suffered last season, but now it appears he may attempt to return for Indiana, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Pacers guard told reporters that his return to the team is within the realm of possibility on Wednesday, and that could help improve Indiana’s playoff odds. He’s already been a full participant at practice and will likely play if he keeps trending in the right direction.
July 9 — Malcolm Brogdon ‘ready’ to play
Brogdon says he’s good to go for the restart of the season in Orlando after testing positive for Covid-19 a few weeks back. This is great news for the Pacers, who won’t have the services of Victor Oladipo. At 39-26, the Pacers have an outside shot of moving up to the No. 4 seed, 2.0 games behind the Miami Heat.
July 3 — Victor Oladipo opts out of Orlando return
Amid growing concerns for his health, Oladipo opted to not play in Orlando when the season restarts. It was a tough call for Dipo, but seems like the right one. The All-Star guard is coming off major quad surgery and looked off at times even when he had returned during the regular season. The Pacers won’t have Jeremy Lamb or Dipo in Orlando, plus Malcolm Brogdon tested positive for Covid-19 on June 24.
