Report: Mavericks, Trey Burke agree to deal for rest of season

With Willie Cauley-Stein opting to sit out Orlando, the Mavericks are bringing in the backup guard for the remainder of the season.

The Dallas Mavericks and PG Trey Burke have agreed to a deal for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Thursday afternoon.

Shams also reports that C Willie Cauley-Stein will sit out the season restart in Orlando due to personal reasons. Cauley-Stein is expecting a child in July. WCS had started the season with the Golden State Warriors. The Mavs picked up Cauley-Stein after he was waived by the Dubs. Burke was picked up by the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2019-20 season but only appeared in 25 games.

Burke should provide depth at guard and on the roster with no WCS and Courtney Lee, who will not return this season after having surgery on his injured calf. Burke is familiar with the Mavericks, having spent 25 games with Dallas last season after leaving the New York Knicks.
