The Chicago Bulls interviewed Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Michael Finley for their vacant general manager position on Friday, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported. Finley spent 15 seasons with the Mavericks from 1997 to 2005 and was a two-time All-Star. He’s been working for the Mavs for the past seven seasons and won a title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.
The Bulls are in search of a new GM after firing Gar Forman last week. The franchise just brought in Arturas Karnisovas from the Denver Nuggets organization to run basketball ops. He’ll oversee all basketball decisions. Karnisovas is familiar with the Euro scene and has helped draft Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic, developing both.
The plan is to develop talent and Finley has been around the NBA for the past two decades and change. He could be a solid voice between the coaches and players and the front office, something the Bulls lacked in the old regime with John Paxson. If he’s hired, he’ll be tasked with getting the most out of Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine, Coby White and Wendell Carter Jr.
