The NBA All Star Game weekend is underway and the Saturday skills competitions are taking place Saturday evening. You can bet on a host of events this weekend, including the Skills Competition and Three Point Shootout. However, the slam dunk contest is off limits for legal sports betting.
The reason legal betting is not allowed is because the judges of the contest are celebrities and they are not covered under the NBA’s betting integrity policy. Action Network personality Darren Rovell spoke with PointsBet spokesperson Patrick Eichner who was told this by the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement. Indiana did not approve the dunk contest for the same reason.
It takes away a little bit of the fun, but it is still a thrilling event given what we see from these dynamic athletes. However, as long as celebrities are given the opportunity to score this competition as they see fit, betting won’t be happening.
