Slam Dunk Contest Results

Update: Gordon was robbed. The Magic forward dunked over 7-foot-5 Tacko Fall and it wasn’t enough to convince the judges that he deserved to win. It’s like history repeating itself. Airplane Mode crushed it, but COME ON. Anyway, I digress. This was an insane dunk contest for the ages. Arguably the best ever.

Update: So Gordon and Jones are apparently going to be dunking all night long. The judges initially said it was a tie. Now Jones just nearly dunked from the foul line. Gordon is about to do something crazy.

Update: This was maybe the best Final in NBA Dunk Contest history. Jones jumped over someone and put it through his legs for a 360 slam. Then Gordon came right back, took it off the side of the backboard and windmilled it home. I’ve got no words. That was insane.

10:10 p.m. — OK, so Aaron Gordon just rolled out Chance the Rapper and had a sick 50-point dunk. So it’ll be Gordon vs. Airplane Mode in the Final. Stay tuned.

10:07 p.m. — Airplane Mode just took Pat to school with a tornado 360 dunk, GOOD LORD. That got him a 50 as well.

10:05 p.m. — Connaughton just dunked over Giannis and tapped the backboard with the ball before dunking. I still don’t really know what just happened, but it got him all 10s and a 50 on his second dunk.

10:00 p.m. — Aaron Gordon didn’t do anything fancy but put home a solid dunk.

9:59 p.m. — Pat Connaughton broke out the White Men Can’t Jump theme, an ode to Billy Hoyle’s character played by Woody Harrelson.

9:56 p.m. — We’re through the first round of dunks and Derrick Jones Jr. had a nice highlight, dunking over his teammate Bam Adebayo.

9:43 p.m. — The Dunk Contest is getting underway and DJ Khaled is out introducing the participants. Here’s who is competing tonight:

Update: Damian Lillard isn’t playing in the game, but Dame Dolla is performing right now. Lillard was replaced by Booker in the ASG and 3PT Contest due to a strained groin. Apparently that isn’t enough to force him to miss his performance in Chitown.

Highlight: Here’s Buddy Hield’s winning shot on the moneyball to get past Booker.

3-Point Contest Final Results

Booker — 26 points
Hield — 27 points
Bertans — 22 points

9:24 p.m. — WALK IT OFF BUDDDY. Hield drained the final shot on his money rack to defeat Booker in the 3-Point Contest! At +600, Hield had the third-longest odds to win this event. He’s the second Kings player to take home the hardware, joining Peja Stojakovic.

9:22 p.m. — Booker came out and one-upped Bertans with 26 points, hitting one of the 3-point MT Dew Bonus shots. He cashed in on most of his money rack as well. Let’s see what Hield’s got.

9:20 p.m. — Bertans had a decent Final round, putting up 22 points. It’s likely not enough to beat out Booker and Hield, but we’ll see. It puts pressure on both finalists.

Graham — 18 points

9:13 p.m. — The defending champ will not advance to the Final. Joe Harris finished with 22 points and it’ll be Booker, Hield and Bertans in the Final. Booker entered at +500, Bertans was +550 and Hield had the longest odds of the group at +600.

9: 12 p.m. — Zach LaVine needed 26 points to advance to the Final and wasn’t able to get there. The defending champ is up next.

9:09 p.m. — Davis Bertans, okay okay. Bertans moved into third place in the first round by going for 26 points.

9:08 p.m. — So Trae Young has been eliminated in the first round and Buddy Hield got hot on the final rack and tied Devin Booker with 27 points by hitting six straight at the end.

9:01 p.m. — HEAT CHECK. Devin Booker finally gave us an exciting round finishing with 27 points, hitting two bonus shots during the first round. He’s got a chip on his shoulder after being a All-Star Game snub and replaced Dame just to get to Chicago.

9:00 p.m. — Duncan Robinson started off cold as well in his first 3-point contest. He finished with 19 points thanks to hitting one of the bonus MT Dew spots.

8:57 p.m. — Devonte’ Graham wasn’t much better than Young, but he showed up when it counted during his moneyball rack and finished with 18 points.

8:55 p.m. — Trae Young was the first to go in the 3PT Contest and he looked off on most of the racks. He finished with 15 points, which makes it hard to view him as a contender to the come out of the first round.

8:43 p.m. — We’ve got a bit of a break until the 3-Point Contest gets going, so let’s look over the odds on DKSB:

My pick is LaVine on the Chicago hometown narrative. Trae Young and Devin Booker will be trendy picks and probably should be favorites. We’re about to get underway though.

8:29 p.m. — BAM BAM. Adebayo defeats Sabonis to take home the Skills Challenge. He was +1000 to win and entered the final with a -125 line over Sabonis. The last Heat player to win this competition? Dwyane Wade, who is in the building looking fresh AF.

Highlight: #TheBamWagon.

8:23 p.m. — And Sabonis edges Middleton to make it an all big man Final! Adebayo vs. Sabonis coming up next! Get hype people!

The live line is currently Adebayo -125 and Sabonis -112 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Who ya got? Both players enter the comp at +1000 to win, by the way.

8:22 p.m. — BAM strikes again. Adebayo eliminates Siakam to advance to the Final! My pick is still alive and well!

Highlight: Here’s Sabonis knocking off the defending champion Tatum in the first round.

8:17 p.m. — And that’s it. Four forwards/centers advance to the second round! Siakam vs. Adebayo and Middleton vs. Sabonis in the Final Four.

8:15 p.m. — 3-3! Middleton knocks off SGA for the third win by a forward or center in the Skills Comp. There are currently no more guards left in the competition.

8:13 p.m. — BAM! Adebayo just knocked off Dinwiddie in the first round, upsetting the favorite at +450. Adebayo came into this competition at +1000 to win.

Big men are currently 2-2 in the first round. Bam and Siakam advance to the second round. Hope you put your money on the upsets.

8:10 p.m. — The brackets are out for the first round of the Skills Comp.

This is a tough draw for Bam going up against a former champ in Dinwiddie. Tatum and Pat Bev should advance, but you never know. SGA vs. Middleton appears to be the most even matchup in the first round. Dinwiddie at +450 is the favorite, but would have to go through Pat Bev in the second round to reach the final. SGA may be the best bet at this point.

7:54 p.m. — We’re about to get underway on Saturday night with the Skills Comp first. Let’s take another look at the odds there:

I still say my sleeper pick here is Adebayo. They were interviewing him a bit during the pre-show and the dude has sneaky handles. As long as he can knock down the 3-point shot, he could upset someone in the first round.
