Ohhhhhh happy day!!! The NBA is implementing new policies this season for healthy players resting and it should limit the amount of times we face smash against our keyboards or phones or whatever electronic device you’re in front of at the time. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the NBA is not allowing any healthy player to rest for high-profile, nationally televised games this season. If they do, it would result in a $100,000 fine.
Teams also cannot rest multiple healthy players unless something unusual pops up. Teams also can’t rest multiple healthy players on the road this season. When a team decides to rest a healthy player, said player needs to be visible to fans, per the report. We will still see some superstar players take nights off but it seems with this protocol it will be less frequently and can’t happen when a team is in a big spot. With the schedule condensed, there won’t be many games in which the Clippers for instance can rest Kawhi Leonard or Paul George. Similar with the Lakers, who are basically on nationally televised games all season long. Good luck getting a night off, LeBron James.
This is important for DFS heading into the 2020-21 season. The fact a team can’t rest more than one healthy player at a time is huge. We won’t see teams just resting the entire starting lineup because its the second night of a back-to-back like we did last season. Sure, teams could just make up injuries like they’ve been doing for years, but it seems that could result in fines and wouldn’t be a great look if something got out. We can only hope that teams will be better reporting news of which healthy player is sitting from slate-to-slate.
