The NBA is targeting March 25 for the 2021 Trade Deadline this upcoming season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Thursday afternoon. The 2020-21 season schedule is expected to be released on Friday with the first half of the year running from Dec. 22 to March 4. After that, there will be an All-Star break from March 5-10 but no All-Star weekend festivities.
The second half of the schedule will be released at a later date. The playoffs are expected to begin on May 18 with the play-in tournament running until May 21. After that, the postseason will begin on May 22 and is expected to run through the second week of July. The season will only run 72 games in an attempt to re-align with a normal NBA calendar. As of now, it’s unclear when the trade deadline will be on March 25. Normally, it’s some time in the afternoon, usually around 3 p.m. ET. Last season, the deadline was Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
Shams is also reporting that the deadline for players to be waived and eligible for postseason rosters is expected to be April 9.
