Jaren Jackson Jr. has alleged growth spurt and we should all be on notice now, right?

Grizzlies teammate Dillon Brooks claims big man grew 2-3 inches and we should all definitely not overreact to this news.

We see human beings go through growth spurts all the time. Normally they happen during puberty, sometime in middle school or high school, allowing an athlete to make the jump from good to great. The most notable NBA player to have this happen to them is Anthony Davis during high school at Simeon, going from 6’3” to 6’11” and becoming one of the most dominant forces we’ve ever seen.

Is Jaren Jackson Jr. the next big growth spurt story of our generation? According to Memphis Grizzlies SG Dillon Brooks, Jackson could be. Brooks told Peter Edmiston of The Athletic that Jackson grew at least 2-3 inches over the offseason? Since last season? In my calculations are correct, that would put Jackson over 7-foot. Jackson is already a candidate to break out in 2020-21. Are we underestimating said breakout? Could Jackson be entering possible All-Star territory? How much will this snippet of information impact his fantasy basketball stock? Only time will tell ....

Right now in my top 100 fantasy basketball rankings for 2020-21, I’ve got Jackson coming in at No. 76 overall. Admittedly, that seems a bit low now that I think about it. Most of it probably has to do with the fact that Jackson doesn’t rebound particularly well for someone who is (was?) 6’11” and now could be over 7-foot. Jackson’s projection would have him heading toward a better Brook Lopez. If he can get the rebounding numbers up, there’s no reason why Jackson can’t be a top 40-50 fantasy asset this season.
